Both of the trips (Pr. George and Mt. St. Helens were great successes! Meeting the Lt. Governor and sharing her love on the outdoors with students from all over BC was fabulous. We presented the video our class had been working on throughout the semester - it incorporated all of our field trips with our thoughts regarding the use of Echo Hts. Park in Chemainus. Everyone on the Mt. St. Helens (MSH) trip enjoyed exploring the lava tubes and walking trails on the south side of the mountain. Below is a photo taken inside one of these former rivers of lava. The Weyerhaeuser Forest Learning Centre on the way up to MSH was very interesting regarding the reforesting and impacts of the 1980 eruption on local flora and fauna. Due to the cloud cover, we were not able to see the top of MSH, just glimpses of the sides and valley floor. Ah well... it gives us a good reason to return sometime in the future!
